Why Autumn Is The Best Time of Year to Shake Up Your Writing

I don’t know about you but Autumn always feels like the start of a new term to me. Is that just me? I know lots of people get excited for the new year and make their resolutions but for me it’s always been about that new school year feeling. It’s the perfect excuse to buy more notebooks and pens to add to the already groaning pile, sitting precariously on my desk.

My name is Vicky and I have a notebook obsession

Lets Save 2020

That is why, despite this being the biggest balls up of a year in my life time, I am actually really excited for the rest of this year and why I’ve decided to set myself a new challenge now, instead of waiting for January.

Wouldn’t it be nice to feel like 2020 hasn’t been a complete waste?

Let Me Hear You Say NaNoWriMo

Of course part of the reason why I’m starting now is the fact that NaNoWriMo is now only a month away. National Novel Writing Month takes place in November and sets writers the challenge of writing 50,000 words in one month. To find out more check out a blog I did on this last year or go to their website to join in.

So What’s The Big Deal?

First of all, I’ve jazzed up my website, so please feel free to take a look around.

But the big thing that I’m excited to share with you is that I am going to be sharing my journey with my newest manuscript from drafting, through to NaNoWriMo and eventually sending it off to agents with the view of landing a traditional publisher.

Don’t get me wrong, I have loved self-publishing my first two short stories (click here and here for them, do it, go on, seriously, do it) but now I want to see what happens if I try to publish the old-fashioned way.

So, if this is something you’ve always been interested in, why not follow along, who knows, maybe you’ll learn from my mistakes. Believe me, there are going to be plenty.

Why Am I Doing This?

Good question, considering like most writers I am the ultimate introvert, well the answer is simple. I think it would be cool to not be alone on this journey and if people out there want to follow along and maybe share what they’re up to, we could have some fun along the way.

Plus I want to create something more personal. I think it will be cool to create something that shares a bit more of my personality. Unless that’s a total turn off for people, then I promise to shut it down and go back to hiding under the duvet and trying to train the dogs to bring me food.

This means that I will be posting more stuff across social media, so be sure to look out for that.

So follow my blog, follow me on social media or even subscribe to my newsletter, which I am still working out how to do and let’s see where this leads.
